I designed a special sidewheel that fits perfectly to my new turret and pointers, for Nikko and S&B scopes. At first glance, it is a standard 5″ (125 mm) wheel, but it has got a special a ‘Dual-Core’ mounting system. There is a ring that goes onto the parallax knob of the scope, and the wheel can be mounted centered or excentric as well. The missing part of the full circle can be found on the basic ring, and this will be combined with the 8-shaped hole on the wheel. This means that the wheel will always have a closed circle around the parallax knob, in both positions.
- Centered position: a fixed 5″ (125 mm) diameter, can be used with SmartPin Adjustable Pointer etc.
- Excentric position: effective diameter between 2.6″-7.3″ (65-185 mm), a linear pointer has to be used
The centered position can be used with a SmartPin Adjustable Pointer, but the excentric position needs of course a linear reading mark, e.g. a piece of old plastic card, held by the scope mount ring. Maybe I’ll design a special version of SmartPin that will be able to hold a long linear mark and elevate it…
These two pictures show my scope gadgets separated, for the better visibility: click turret and sidewheel, with their pointers:
And now al ttogether, from a general view and also from the shooter’s view:
Dual-Core Sidewheel:
- Blue: base ring – fixed on the parallax knob of the scope
- Red: the wheel – in centered position
Click Turret:
- Brown: thumb screw – resetting without allen keys
- Purple: Pellet holder – a flexible holder for 12 pellets
- Light blue: Outside knob – with gears at the bottom
- Yellow: Inside kob – this goes to the original scope knob
- Green: Bottoming ring – can be adjusted so the turret bottoms where needed
And here you can see all the parts around the scope, in an exploded view: the sidewheel, the click turret, and also the EasyPin and SmartPin pointers.
The pictures above are show the accessories of the Nikko MK3, but I have designed the same system for the old MK1-2 Nikko and for Schmidt&Bender FT. The difference is not too big between the two Nikkos, the wheel is the same, only the inside structure of the turret differs.
The S&B scope is a bit more different, it doesn’t need other wheel than its original 5″ wheel, and there is no reason to make a bottoming turret since the turret keeps its height when rotating. And I used the SmartPin Extra S&B Pointer, this has been designed specially for correcting the huge POI-shift issues of this scope.
